Abysmal turnout
Hawaii has had the lowest voter turnout in all 50 states!
Various reasons have been given, but the real reason is that voters have lost hope or fled the state.
Despite politicians’ promises, it has been decades of the double-whammies of low wages and high cost of living.
Today, Hawaii’s young couples can even remember not only their parents but their grandparents having had to work the now sad standard three to four jobs between a couple — JUST TO MAKE ENDS MEET.
Political “solutions” have simply made the problems worse overall. Most Hawaii politicians campaign that their constituents get a larger slice of the small pie rather than increasing the size of the pie for everybody.
Things will not get better if the trend continues, because low voter turnout gives special interests even more power (less voters to manipulate and cheaper to buy politicians).

Send Hirono packing
Dear Voters of Hawaii: Forty-nine other states had to listen to your senator, Mazie Hirono, tell the men of the country to SHUT UP and stand up.
I quite agree, and I hope the men of Hawaii will shut up, stand up and go to the polls and vote Mazie Hirono out of the Senate and let her know her comments are nothing less than sexist and rude.
No other senator from the other 49 states would say such a thing and stay in office.
Make Hawaii great again and give Mazie a pink slip.

Another way out
Regarding the letter from Matt Sol (Your Views, Sept, 25 “Need another road”): I totally agree, we do need another way out of Puna. Finishing Railroad Avenue would be the way to go.
I’m glad his father’s condition didn’t end up worse. No need to spend money on more housing; spend it on our roads.
